Change Account Behaviors

Account Type vs Account Behavior

When you connect a bank account, Roo receives an Account Type from the bank or aggregator.

Examples include:

  • Checking
  • Savings
  • Venmo or PayPal
  • Credit Card
  • Loan
  • Investing
  • Unknown

These labels describe what the account is.

But Roo also assigns an Account Behavior, which determines how the account works inside your plan.

Account Behavior determines:

  • Whether transactions are tracked
  • Whether the balance funds your pouches
  • Whether the account affects your net worth

Account Behaviors

On-Budget

On-budget accounts are your everyday money.

Examples include:

  • Checking accounts
  • Savings accounts you spend from
  • Cash management accounts

On-budget money is the water in your River.

When money sits in a On-budget account:

✅ Tracks the transactions

✅ Balance funds pouches

✅ Balance included in net worth

When income arrives, Roo automatically sends that money flowing through your River according to your plan.

On-budget accounts power your automation.

CC Mode

Credit Cards are labeled separately as CC Mode.

When money is in CC Mode account:

✅ Tracks the transactions

❌ Balance does NOT fund pouches

✅ Balance included in net worth

A credit card represents spending that already happened. It is not available cash.

Off-budget Accounts

Off-budget accounts are part of your overall financial picture, but they do not flow through your River.

Examples include:

  • 401(k) and retirement accounts
  • IRAs
  • Investment and brokerage accounts
  • Health Savings Accounts
  • College savings plans
  • Certificates of Deposit
  • Loans such as mortgages, auto loans, or student loans

When money sits in a Off-budget account:

❌ Does NOT tracks the transactions

❌ Balance does NOT fund pouches

✅ Balance included in net worth

Assets increase net worth.

Loans decrease net worth.

But neither one powers your daily budget.

Think of Off-budget accounts as part of your broader ecosystem, not part of your daily flow.

Hidden Accounts

Hidden accounts stay completely outside your plan.

Roo:

❌ Does NOT tracks the transactions

❌ Balance does NOT fund pouches

❌ Balance NOT included in net worth

They are simply not part of your setup right now.

How To Change Account Behavior

You can change account behavior from the account settings.

  1. Open the account you want to adjust.
  2. Tap the account settings or options menu.
  3. Find the Account Behavior setting.
  4. Choose the behavior you want:
    • On-Budget
    • Off-Budget
    • CC Mode
    • Hidden
  5. Save your changes.

Roo will immediately update how the account participates in your plan.

How Account Behavior Connects To Your River

Your River is powered only by On-budget account funds.

When you swipe money as income:

  • Roo routes it through Bills
  • Funds the Reservoir
  • Fills Other Pouches
  • Deposits any leftover into Overflow

Off-budget and Credit Card balances influence net worth, but they do not send water through your River.

Clear labeling keeps your plan accurate and your automation working properly.

FAQs

What if I want to change an account behavior?

You can change an account’s behavior in the account settings.

When you change the behavior, you are changing how Roo treats that account in your plan.

  • Changing an On-budget account to Off-budget will stop it from funding your pouches.
  • Changing an account to Hidden will remove it from your River and your net worth.
  • Changing an Off-budget account to On-budget will begin tracking its transactions and include its balance in your plan.

Before changing, ask yourself:

You can change this at any time.

What if I want my credit card to act like a checking account?

By default, credit cards use CC Mode because they represent spending that already happened.

If you want a credit card to behave like a checking account, change its behavior to On-budget in account settings.

When you do this:

  • The card’s balance will fund your pouches — decreasing as the balance increases
  • Transactions will continue to be tracked

Only do this if you truly want the card’s balance reflected in your pouches. Most users should leave credit cards in CC Mode so the system accurately reflects reality.
