Why Does My Roo Balance Not Match My Bank Balance?

Why Balances Sometimes Don’t Match

Timing: The Most Common Reason

Banks do not always update balances and transactions at the same time.

A bank may:

  • Update the balance first
  • Send the transactions later

When that happens, Roo can briefly appear off even though nothing is wrong.

This usually resolves within a day or two.

Best action: Wait.

Pending Transactions

Banks often include pending transactions in their displayed balance.

Those transactions may:

  • Still be processing
  • Not appear in Roo immediately
  • Post later with a final amount

Until they fully post and sync, balances can look mismatched.

Best action: Wait.

Updated Or Corrected Transactions

Banks sometimes change transactions after they post.

This can include:

  • Amount changes
  • Merchant name updates
  • Replacement transactions

During that update window, Roo may briefly appear out of sync.

Best action: Wait.

When The Difference Does Not Resolve

If the mismatch lasts longer than a few days, it may require action.

Initial Bank Connection Timing

When you first connect a bank, Roo syncs approximately 60 days of history.

If a transaction was pending during that first sync:

  • The balance may have included it
  • The final transaction may never arrive

This can create a lasting difference.

Best action: Make a one-time manual balance adjustment on the account screen.

Ignored Or Manually Adjusted Transactions

If a transaction was ignored or manually adjusted incorrectly, the account balance in Roo may differ from the bank.

Best action: Review ignored transactions and manual adjustments. Restore or delete them if needed.

Balance Changed Without Explanation

Occasionally, a bank changes a balance without sending enough data to explain why.

If the change is recent, wait a day or two.

If it has been more than 7 days and the difference has not resolved, it is unlikely to correct itself.

Best action: Make a one-time manual adjustment.

Roo Balances Reflect Real Money

Roo does not use pretend numbers.

Your Roo balances reflect your real bank balances.

If a bank account drops $1, your Roo balance drops $1.

If your Roo balance is getting low, your real money is getting low.

When balances do not match, it is usually because the bank has not finished reporting data yet, not because Roo is estimating.

FAQs

Why does Roo tell me to wait?

Waiting is intentional.

Most balance differences are caused by timing at the bank level and resolve on their own.

Roo does not prompt you to fix issues that are likely to correct themselves. If there is no alert or clear error message, the best action is usually to wait.

If the difference lasts more than several days, then it makes sense to investigate manually.

Silence usually means the system is still syncing.

A Simple Way To Think About It

If you notice a difference:

  1. Wait a day or two.
  2. If it is older than 7 days, check ignored transactions and manual adjustments.
  3. If needed, make a one-time adjustment.

That’s it.
