Where did the idea for Roo come from?
A software engineer recognized that personal finance is a complex problem domain — one where multiple problems are interconnected, fixing one often creates another, and incremental tweaks rarely work. Instead, you have to step back and rethink the system as a whole.
That led to a key question: should a personal finance app for individuals and families really be built on the same principles used in corporate accounting — dozens of categories, walls of reports, and retroactive analysis? Once we reframed the problem from a human-centric perspective rather than a business one, it became clear what needed to change.
