Tracking Your Spending
Goal
Learn how to record spending and keep your budget up to date.
Step 1: Record a Transaction
Every time you spend money, log it in Roo:
- Tap Add Transaction.
- Enter the amount, payee, and date.
- Assign it to a category.
If you have a linked account, many transactions will appear automatically — just review and categorize them.
Step 2: Check Your Categories
After entering transactions, look at your category balances:
- Green means you have money left to spend.
- Yellow means you’re getting close to your limit.
- Red means you’ve overspent — time to cover it from another category.
Step 3: Adjust as Needed
Overspending happens. When it does, move money from a category with extra to cover the one that’s short. This is called “rolling with the punches” — and it’s a core part of budgeting.
Key Takeaway
The budget is only useful if it reflects reality. Check in regularly — even a quick daily glance keeps you in control.
